Lt Col (Ret) Christopher L. Kelly serves as Chief Wing Operations and Programs, 502 Air Base Wing (ABW), Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Texas & currently the JBSA Kelly Field Air Show & Open House Director. Christopher Kelly was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the USMC following the Officer Candidate Course in 1987. He attended Naval Aviation Pilot Training at Pensacola, Fl. in 1988 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1990. He was assigned as a CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter pilot 1991. He served in two Western Pacific deployments to include Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Somalia. In 1994, he received an interservice transfer to the USAF, and was assigned to USAF Special Operations Command as a MH-53J/M pilot.
Christopher Kelly served in both the 20th Special Operations Squadron (SOS) at Hurlburt Field, Florida and the 31st SOS at Osan Air Base, ROK from 1994 to 2000. During this time Lt Col Kelly upgraded to MH-53 Instructor and Evaluator Pilot. He became the 16th Special Operations Wing (SOW) Chief Rotory Wing Special Missions Planner, the 20th SOS Chief Chief of Current Operations, and the War Readiness Flight Commander, 31st SOS, ROK. Christopher Kelly was then assigned to Naval Schools Command, Pensacola as a Navigator Instructor and Chief Operations Officer in the T-34C. Following that assignment he attended Air Force Command and Staff College (ACSC) in 2002.
Following ACSC Christopher Kelly was then assigned as a T-6 instructor at Laughlin AFB and the Director of Operations in the 84th Flying Training Squadron. He later served as the 47th Flying Training Wing Chief, Plans Programs and Exercises. Christopher Kelly was then assigned to Randolph AFB as the 12th Flying Training Wing, Chief Wing Plans and Programs, and was an advanced instructor pilot in the T-6 from June of 2007 to January 2011. Christopher Kelly is a Command Pilot with over 4,000 hours of flight time.
He retired from the USAF January 2011 and joined the 502 ABW. Currently Chris is the Chief of Operations and Programs for the 502 ABW Installation. His duties as a GS-14 include installation Operations, Crisis Action Management, Command and Control, Bedowns and New Missions, OPSEC, OPORDS to name a few. Chris has also volunteered to lead the JBSA Air Show and Open House as the Air Show Director.
